This is a quote from an African man, who was transported through the storm of a genocide far from his people, his culture, his language and his soul.
I will present here the testimony in a psychiatric practice of an extreme destiny. I will add theoretical reflections on psychodynamics and the function of symbols in psychic trauma. I will also describe transference and countertransference in this extraordinary encounter of two people with very different roots and cultures. Intense suffering can trigger a process of consciousness, which seeks to renew and rebalance life out of the depth of the soul, focusing on reconnection with the self, as well as on confronting the shadow and possibly its reintegration.
